Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to
someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are
meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run
and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine,
and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health
and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole
and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of
days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content,
except for one small thing; they each miss someone very
special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one
suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes
are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run
from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying
him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend
finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be
parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your
hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more
into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life
but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Rocky was our first sheltie that we had ever owned.
We didn't know much about the breed other than that
they looked like a smaller version of Lassie. We got
him from an older woman who was a neighbor of our
oldest daughter. She could no longer take care of him
and she wanted to see Rocky go to a good home.
We weren't sure that we were going to keep him but
the younger girls, (aged 14 and 16 at the time) insisted
that we go and at least see him. My husband and the
girls went to the lady's house and instantly fell in love.
Rocky became our new best friend and the best pet
we ever had. He was by no means a show quality
sheltie as he had many flaws, but he was a very well
behaved, gentle, quiet, friendly dog. He was loyal and
affectionate. He may not have been a champion in the
show ring, but he won our hearts ten fold.
Rocky would go fishing in the boat with us, he would
go swimming right up into water that was waist deep
on the girls, he loved to go for car rides. He had to be
everywhere that his people were no matter where that
might be. He was glad to go along. Rocky lived out
many more years with us before he finally moved on
to rainbow bridge. We loved him dearly and still miss
him very much.
If it weren't for our precious "Rocky dog" we never
would have had the sheltie bug bite us and we wouldn't
have this kennel today.
One day we will be reunited with Rocky and when we
are, We all will be thrilled to see him. Until then may he
Rest In Peace.
